Private Student Screening of Award-Winning Film ANUJA

Past event

ICA SF is hosting a free private screening of the short film ANUJA for local students, hosted by Isaiah Dufort, Director of SF Art & Film. Film Director Adam Graves will join for a virtual conversation and Q & A, followed by a tour of the exhibition Suchitra Mattai: she walked in reverse and found their songs with ICA SF Assistant Curator Meghan Smith.

Produced by Suchitra Mattai and directed by her husband Adam Graves, ANUJA—recent Best Live Action Short winner at the Oscar-qualifying HollyShorts Film Festival—explores the themes of child labor and girls’ education. Shine Global, a non-profit with the mission to improve childrens’ lives through powerful storytelling, will be sharing elements of its impact campaign focused on child labor and girls’ education.

ANUJA was researched and filmed with the help of several community partners, such as the Salaam Baalak Trust, a nonprofit organization that brings education and opportunity to thousands of street and working children. The film’s lead role is played by Sajda Pathan, a resident of a Salaam Baalak center that provides a home for girls formerly living on the streets of Delhi. “This story took shape in collaboration with the community and it recognizes the vitality and ingenuity of two young women who, like so many kids around the world, face near-impossible odds,” explains Producer Aaron Kopp. Shine Global, a non-profit with the mission to improve childrens’ lives through powerful storytelling, is planning a robust impact campaign around the film focusing on child labor and girls education.
