The ICA SF Teen Program is a dynamic and concentrated experience rooted in the values of ICA SF: to explore the most critical social, political, and cultural questions of our time through contemporary art.
In sessions that meet twice a month led by museum educators, teens will explore contemporary art through a balance of dialogue, hands-on explorations, and public speaking. The program offers opportunities to connect art with the community, explore creative careers and arts leadership, and build skills for thoughtful interpretation.
DEADLINE: Thursday, September 4th. Considered applicants must participate in a mandatory interview.
Funding support for our Teen Program is generously provided by the Foundation for Quality Housing Opportunities.
Since we moved into our Downtown space in October 2024, ICA SF has welcomed 232 students from 11 schools, ranging from preschoolers to college students. ICA SF staff offers guided tours for schools, organizations, and groups of all ages.
Hear what teachers and students are saying about their visits:
“It’s fantastic to have a space where my high school students can interact so intimately with contemporary art pieces with the support of museum staff.”
“The students’ up close and personal experience with the art was powerful. They were riveted by the lessons and the background information—it was just the right level for them.”
“I really appreciate how kind and welcoming you were to me and my peers. Talking to you made me want to work at a museum.”
In 2024, over 400 kids and families visited ICA SF for free coloring pages, workshops, and art activities inspired by our current exhibitions. Programming partners have included the Museum of the African Diaspora and the San Francisco Public Library.
In 2023, approximately 800 kids participated in Children’s Studio with their families. ICA SF partnered with SFUSD and elementary level visual art teachers to develop activities inspired by our exhibitions on view, and partnered with Enterprise for Youth to hire high school interns to teach and facilitate.
